LUCIAN FREUD AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY


A wonderful dive into Lucian Freud’s (1922-2011) art work at the National Gallery . Some pieces are lent by Madrid’s  Thyssen Bornemiza museum are perfectly described by the musem’s curator.

 Lucian Freud’s approach putting  the sitter at the heart of the painting production, occupying his imagination. The studio or portrait surrounding, the scene are full of details translating Lucian Freud’s messaging.

The diversified influence of other artists : Titian, Bacon, Degas and his uncle Sigmund Freudso richly delivered through his long career is very well explained.

Lucian Freud was included in Paul Allen’s collection sale by Christies early November : « Large Interior W11 » 1981-1983 that was acquired at USD 5.8M back  in 1998 was hammered at USD 86M posting a new record for the painter.
