Record USD 1 bio estimated auction coming up at Christie’s NY on Nov.9 featuring the fabulous Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen ‘s,(1953-2018) collection.
Covering Old Masters, Impressionism and Post War, it includes 3 wonderful pieces estimated above USD100M :
-Cezanne’s « Montagne Ste Victoire »( sold in 2001 at USD 38.5 M),
-Seurat’s « Les Poseuses, Ensemble »
-Van Gogh’s « Verger avec cyprès « .
2 pieces are estimated at more than the double of the USD 40M price P.Allen acquired them for in 2006:
Gaugin’s « Maternité » and Klimt’s « Birch Forest ».
Lucian Freud, Jasper Johns, Claude Monet, Edouard Manet works are estimated between USD50M and 75M .
Also included in the collection is a rare Boticelli Virgin expected to sell at USD 40M.
Brueghel Le jeune, Canaletto, Signac, Turner, Picasso, Dali, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Calder, Louise Bourgeois, Giorgia O Kieffe, Sam Francis, Diego Rivera, Francis Bacon, Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney and more will illuminate this auction totalling 150 works. .
Paul Allen fully deserves the surname given to his collection auction « Visionary » as he drives us through an exceptional journey across 500 years of Art History.
Paul Allen wished the sale proceeds to be fully allocated to philantropic causes.
